Fellowship Hall
Let us help feed our community!
By Kay Callaghan
Canned food and non-perishable food products will continue to be collected in the Narthex, in the entry way of the chapel, and in Fellowship Hall. There are properly labeled collection boxes for your donations. This in an on-going project, so feel free to drop off your canned goods whenever convenient for you. The food will be taken to St. Vincent de Paul’s (at Our Saviour's Catholic Church) on Wednesdays for distribution to those in need. These are folks that are in more long term need than just a one-time meal. Riverside and other churches in the community refer people to St. Vincent’s for assistance in all sorts of areas – food, payment of utilities, housing and other areas.
The needed items are: canned meat or tuna, small canned hams, canned chicken and dumplings or meat stew, canned fruit, rice, pasta, canned soup, canned vegetables, baked beans, and dried boxed cereal. Please do not donate cans with expired dates.
Let us remember that this is an opportunity to serve others in the community who may be in need. With the economy in bad straits, unemployment high, and unemployment likely to go higher when the Cape goes through its big layoffs, there are more people in our area needing help. Let’s dig a little deeper, bring some canned food, and help out.
Thank you!
