Minutes of the Session

August 21, 2008
The stated meeting of the session of Riverside Presbyterian Church was held on Tuesday, August 21, 2008 in Knox Parlor. The elders present constituted a quorum. The meeting was called to order at 7 pm by Moderator, Rev. Dan Robinson, followed by a devotion and prayer by Robert Ward. Mary Mullin was recognized and welcomed as the representative from the Presbyterian Women Coordinating Team. Debbie Burleigh was in attendance as a member of the staff. Both were given the privilege of speaking to issues but no right to vote. A MOTION was passed to set adjournment by 9 pm.
CLERK’S REPORT:
The minutes of the Stated Meeting of July 15, 2008 and the Special Called Meeting of August 9, 2008 were approved as presented.

A MOTION was made to remove Joanna Maloney from the active roll by Letter of Transfer to the Allenhurst Presbyterian Church of Allenhurst, Georgia. s/p

A MOTION was made to remove James Larson from the active roll by death on August 20, 2008. A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Dan Robinson at the Florida Memorial Park on August 26, 2008. s/p

A MOTION was made to approve a request to baptize Jacob William Buckley-Rivera (Jake) on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the 8:45 service. Jake is the infant son of member, Shelli Buckley and non-member, Nelson Rivera, and the grandson of Jack and Sonja Buckley. s/p

A MOTION was made to approve a request to baptize Daniel Robert Wilson, son of non-members Brian and Leona Wilson, on October 5, 2008 at the 8:45 service. Daniel was born on July 1, 2008 in Deland, Florida. s/p

A MOTION was made to approve a request to baptize Robert William Ward (Robbie), son of members, Robert and Karen Ward, on October 5 at the 8:45 service. Robbie was born on March 21, 2008 in Titusville. s/p

A MOTION was made to approve a request to baptize Janick Alexander Davidson, born October 28, 2008 in Brooksville, Florida. Janick is the grandson of member, Vicki Geiler. His parents are Ray H. Davidson, Jr. and Lisa M. Davidson. s/p
OLD BUSINESS:
At the July meeting of the Session, the Presbyterian Women requested approval of their dates for Gatherings from September, 2008 through April, 2009. The request was approved pending a check with the master calendar. That action has been taken and thus their dates approved. Their request to observe Thank Offering Sunday on October 19, 2008 and Blanket Sunday on January 18, 2009 was also approved.
COMMISSION REPORTS:
Worship & Sacrament – Ann Stone – Communion was observed on Sunday, August 3, with 90 served at the 8:45 service and 103 at the 11 o’clock service. A second meeting of this commission will be held on August 26 for further discussion as to whether time changes should be made to the two worship services and Sunday School.
Personnel – Mike Reed- No report.
OMEC – Mason Gibson – The first concert in the Dr. Vernon Boushell Concert Series 2008-2009 will be selections of sacred music performed on November 9, 2008. The music will be performed by the newly formed Space Coast Oratorio Society. Rehearsals have begun.
Property – Dan Coon – A selling price of $350,000 for the manse property located at 14 Yawl Drive, Cocoa Beach, has been agreed upon by the Session and the buyers, Didier and Daniele Odin. The inspection of the property has been conducted. The closing date is set for September 16, 2008.
Father Heslin, of Our Saviors Catholic Church, has requested the use of Fellowship Hall for about 6 months beginning in October for a group meeting of 50-60 people. The Session asked for more information as to setup and cleanup requirements.
Stewardship & Finance – Dan Spellman – November 23, 2008 has been designated as Stewardship Sunday.
Due to an oversight at the Presbyterian Board of Pension’s Office, Rev. Robinson’s salary increases from 2004 through 2007 were not properly recorded, resulting in insufficient payments to the Board of Pensions on his behalf. The estimated shortfall is approximately $4,200 and the final figure needs to be determined. To correct this situation, the Stewardship & Finance Commission presented a MOTION that the Session approve payment to Rev. Dan Robinson’s 403(b) Fidelity account of an amount not greater than $5,000 for pension credits on his salary from 2004-2007. s/p

Education – Fred Robinson – Report received as information.
Fellowship – A new event will take place once a month beginning on Saturday, October 4, 2008. It’s a Family Breakfast Buffet from 8:30 to 9:30 am. Glenn Arnold will provide a musical program. Ticket sales will begin 4 weeks prior to the breakfast.

Elder, Robert Ward, was elected to attend the September 9 meeting of Central Florida Presbytery at Westminster by the Sea, Daytona Shores.

Memorial Garden is in need of maintenance. Property will get involved.
