Mission Trip
Belize, Central America

This summer we were privileged to serve the Lord in Belize, Central America. Our summer's mission began with a 10-day training Boot Camp at Teen Missions. We flew from Orlando-Miami to Belize City. The first leg of our bus ride took us to Orange Walk Town. We then continued over badly rutted dirt roads to our camp at Honey Camp Lagoon. Teen Missions had just recently purchased two parcels of land on the lagoon. Our camp had just been carved out of a patch of jungle. It was primitive camping even by Belize standards. We had to haul our water from a well a half-mile away. We even harvested rainwater off the large tent covering we had. It rained almost daily and the clay-like soil became a slippery mess. Mosquitoes and gnats also enjoyed our company 24 hours a day or so it seemed. Our goal was to mold our 26 preteens, ages 10-13, into pioneer missionaries while establishing a new TMI Overseas Boot Camp. Our first project was to create a 5'x5'x25' mud embankment. A wooden wharf will continue out into the lagoon and a large platform with a building will be built on the end. We had barely completed the mud embankment when we had to evacuate for Hurricane Emily. Fortunately we had only 20 minutes of rain from Emily and no serious wind. Upon our return to Honey Camp, we began to build a 200' seawall. We dug down 18" for our footer and laid three courses of block. Also our team helped the teen team at the site in digging an 8'x8'x20' deep well. It will be nice not to have to haul water! Our time in Belize quickly sped by. We pray that next June all will be ready for the first Belize Overseas Boot Camp to take place. As in every new work of the Lord, the power of prayer sustained us as we encountered many difficulties. Thank you for lifting us up in your prayers. Servants in Christ, |
