I am a product of the South-east, where the football is advanced on the ground and the bbq is pork, as God intended for both. As the son of a Presbyterian minister, I am the product of the Church, having been raised on Old Lady Church Punch, finger sandwiches, and potluck suppers. From the saints who raised me, I learned the beauty of grace, something I try to model for others.
I am the product of a strong educational system. My mother was a teacher, one who expected her children to excel. I have two learning disabilities. Yet, I was not exempt from her expectations. Though I struggled in school, I find myself unable to escape classrooms, longing to expand my horizons.
I am the product of a sports upbringing. There has never been a time in my life when I wasn’t playing something. I may not be good, but I value being part of a team and the lessons learned from winning and losing.
I am the product of a great family. My wife, Becky, and I have been married for 25 years. We have 3 great children: Katelyn, Mac, and Cleigh. They have brought us great joy.
I am sure I am the product of other things. I hope to always be able to say that, as the ability to do so means I am constantly engaged with the wonderful world God has entrusted to us.
Since being ordained, I have been blessed to serve 4 congregations. I have done amazing things in each. I have served, led, studied, worshipped, prayed, and played with incredible people of faith. Together, we’ve journeyed through the hills of Appalachia, the mountains of Alaska, and the peaks and valleys of life. Of course, it hasn’t always been play. In each congregation, I have seen brokenness and pain, much of which I was invited to share. While I would not wish pain on anyone, I am grateful for the grace extended to me.
My journey has led me to Riverside Presbyterian, a congregation that not only takes seriously the call to enjoy ministry, but is also quick to roll up its sleeves and do the work of ministry. I am grateful to be here and am excited to see what God has in store for our ministry together!
